Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
FRISCO, TX - Blake Beavan kept the Naturals off-balance all evening, tossing seven shutout innings as Northwest Arkansas fell to Frisco 2-1 Wednesday night.
Beavan (7-2) allowed just four hits and did not issue a walk while fanning five. The Naturals got just one runner to third base against Beavan, who yielded just one hit over his final four frames.
The lone runner to make it to third against Beavan came in the third inning with the Naturals down 1-0. Chris McConnell and Derrick Robinson singled back-to-back with one out and each moved up 90 feet on a passed ball by Frisco backstop Taylor Teagarden. Johnny Giavotella lifted a flyball to center field, and Frisco outfielder James Tomlin was able to catch it and gun down McConnell at home.
Frisco (26-19) got its first run on a solo shot by Joey Butler in the second inning. It was Butler's fifth homer of the season.
They scored another run and nearly broke the game open in the sixth. Butler drew a walk from Naturals' starter Aaron Crow with one out and the Teagarden singled. Andy Jenkins followed and drove in Butler with a single to give Frisco the 2-0 lead. Tomlin followed and beat out an infield single to load the bases with still just one out. But Crow fanned Marcus Lemon and got Renny Osuna to ground out to limit the damage.
Crow (2-4) left after six innings. He allowed two runs and six hits, walked five, and fanned five. Louis Coleman kept Frisco hitless the rest of the way.
Northwest Arkansas (28-16) tried to get something going in the eighth off of Matt Harrison, on rehab from the Texas Rangers. Ernesto Mejia doubled to leadoff the frame and moved to third on Tim Smith's ensuing groundout. Derrick Robinson hit a two-out RBI single to bring Mejia in. Robinson was able to move to second on an errant pickoff attempt by Harrison, but Johnny Giavotella struck out to end the inning. Robinson was the only Natural with two hits.
Harrison got the Naturals in order in the ninth to earn the save.
