Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) Perennial all-star offensive tackle Bruce Beaton announced his return to the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club today. The 11-year CFL veteran had spent six years with Edmonton ('98-'03) and retired prior to the 2004 season.
"I am very excited about having an opportunity to come back to a team coached by Danny Maciocia and led by quarterback Jason Maas. I know that 2005 will be a very exciting year for the Eskimos and I want to be a part of it, said Beaton.
The product of Acadia University never missed a game in his previous six years with the Green and Gold, and was the West Division finalist as the CFL's Outstanding Lineman in 2002.
"I am thrilled to have Bruce back," said Eskimo Head Coach, Danny Maciocia. "His experience and leadership will make us better up front and help the development of our younger lineman."
Originally drafted by BC (8th overall) in 1991, Beaton was traded to Ottawa and spent two seasons ('93-'94) with the Rough Riders. He spent one season in Calgary ('95) before moving to Montreal for two years where he was named a CFL East All-Star in 1996 and '97. Bruce originally signed as a free agent with Edmonton in May of 1998 and did not miss a game in six seasons with the Green and Gold.
Bruce and his wife Michelle along with daughter Layla Jane and son Samuel make their home in Kentville, Nova Scotia.
