November 27, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
(Hershey, PA-November 27, 2018)-The Hershey Bears are preparing for a big week ahead at the Giant Center. The Chocolate and White host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Wednesday for Hersheypark Pass Night. The team then hosts its annual Hall of Fame Night on Saturday as Springfield comes to town. Sunday marks the annual CommunityAid & WGAL Teddy Bear Toss Night versus Binghamton. Five of the club's next six games are on home ice as the team looks to climb above .500. The Bears currently sit at 9-10-0-1 with 19 points through 20 games. The club is just four points out of third place in the competitive Atlantic Division.
Last week the Chocolate and White split a pair of games versus division rivals. The Bears opened the week with a 6-2 loss at Lehigh Valley last Friday. Beck Malenstyn and Jayson Megna scored for Hershey, but the Bears trailed 3-2 heading into the third period, and the Phantoms pulled away with a three-goal stanza to earn the win. The defeat was Hershey's seventh straight at the PPL Center.
On Saturday, Hershey bounced back with a 3-2 win at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Megna and Sergei Shumakov had second period goals, and Mike Sgarbossa's third period tally ended up being the game-winning goal.

#BEARSCARES:
The Bears are committed to giving back to the local community. This past Monday, Beck Malenstyn, Garrett Pilon, and Nathan Walker appeared at the Old Barn Show at the Bears' Den. Select players visited children at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center on Tuesday. On Thursday, Nov. 29 fans may head to Funck's in Palmyra to play trivia from 8-10 p.m. versus Nathan Walker, Connor Hobbs, Colby Williams, and Beck Malenstyn. Players are subject to change.
MAKING A MEGNA IMPACT: Veteran forward Jayson Megna enters this week with goals in two straight games for the Chocolate and White. The center has scored three goals over the past four games, and has four markers in his past six games. Two of Megna's goals have come versus Wednesday's opponent, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. With five goals in 16 games for Hershey, Megna has already surpassed the four goals he scored with Utica last season in 25 games.
CZECHING BACK IN: Netminder Vitek Vanecek returned to the crease last Saturday after missing time with an upper body injury. The Havlickuv Brod, Czech Republic native picked up right where he left off, stopping 25 shots in the 3-2 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Vanecek holds a 4-3-0-1 record this season and ranks seventh in the AHL with a 2.36 goals against average. He has won three of his past four appearances.
SUCCESS FOR SERGEI: The Bears saw forward Sergei Shumakov return to the lineup last weekend after missing over a month with an upper body injury. Shumakov made a quick impact, scoring his third goal of the season, and second unassisted marker of the year, in the win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday.
HALL OF FAME NIGHT: Prior to Saturday's game, the Hershey Bears Hockey Club Hall of Fame will induct the Class of 2018, which includes Andy Branigan (player), Ellard "Obie" O'Brien (player), George "Red" Sullivan (player) and Mitch Grand (general). Former Bears broadcaster and current Voice of the Capitals, John Walton, will serve as emcee.
#TEDDYBEARTOSSHERSHEY: On Sunday, the Bears host the CommunityAid & WGAL Teddy Bear Toss. Last year, the club collected a team-record 25,017 teddy bears. Over the past five years, Hershey fans have donated 93,979 stuffed animals to charity. Hershey forward Liam O'Brien scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal in 2017, tallying a pair of goals in an overtime win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Dec. 3.
BEARS BITES: Forward Riley Barber has a goal in three straight home games...Shane Gersich has three points (one goal, two assists) in his last four contests...Defender Tyler Lewington is second in the AHL in penalty minutes with 67...Hershey already has three wins versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in four tries, surpassing the two wins in 12 games they recorded last season.
