Bears turn triple play in losing effort

The Yakima Bears lost 5-2 Saturday night to the Eugene Emeralds at PK Park. The highlight of the night for the Bears came in the eighth inning, when, with Emeralds runners at first and second, Jacob House caught a line drive, stepped on first, and threw to Kevin Medrano at second for a triple play.
The Bears jumped out to an early lead with Yogey Perez-Ramos singled and Kerry Jenkins was hit by a pitch to set the table for Jacob House, who hit a ground rule double to score the games first run. Jimmy Comerota then hit a groundout to plate Jenkins. Those were the only runs of the game for the Bears.
The Bears pitching staff yielded five runs between the fourth and seventh innings, as the Emeralds scored in all four innings. Two of the runs were unearned due to four Bears errors, but the pitchers also walked 10 batters. Starter Miguel Pena left after four innings, having walked five and allowing one earned run and two runs total. The loss went on Jose Jose, who allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, in one and two thirds innings. Bobby O'Neill gave up a run in one and a third innings and Frank Santana tossed a scoreless frame.
Mark Ginther, Shaun Cooper, and House all collected their first professional hits, with Coopers coming as a pinch hitter. Jimmy Comerota extended his hitting streak to 14-straight games dating back to last season.
The Bears are now 0-2 this season, but are still tied for first in the East Division thanks to back-to-back wins by every other team in the West Division as well. The Bears take on the Emeralds in an afternoon game Sunday. First pitch at PK Park is scheduled for 1:05. Two lefty hurlers are set to start, with Alexander Carreras slated for the Bears and Mike Watt expected to go for the Emeralds.
