Bears Sign Wellar, Brouillette for 2011-12

HERSHEY - The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the club has signed defenseman Patrick Wellar to an AHL contract for the upcoming 2011-12 season. HERSHEY also announced the signing of defenseman Julien Brouillette for the upcoming campaign. The announcement was made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

Wellar, 27, returns to HERSHEY for his fourth season in a Chocolate and White sweater, after playing in 72 games for the BEARS in 2010-11. He scored three goals and assisted on 15 others last season for a total of 18 points, and also piled up 120 penalty minutes. A native of Carrot River, SK, Wellar was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the third round, 77thoverall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Brouillette, 24, stands at 5'11", 185 lbs, and comes to HERSHEY after skating in 49 games for Lake Erie (AHL) in 2010-11. He scored two goals and recorded 15 assists as well as a plus 17 plus/minus rating while playing for the Monsters. Brouillette (pronounced broo-YET) is a native of St. Esprit, PQ, and has previously played in the AHL with Providence, Hartford and Charlotte.

The BEARS will open the 2011-12 regular season in early October, with season ticket plans available now by calling (717) 508-BEAR. The American Hockey League is expected to release the 2011-12 regular season schedule in early August.
