(Rochester, July 11)... The Rochester Americans Alumni Association will host two fundraising memorial events to honor Amerks Hall of Famer Craig Charron this summer. Craig was a player, coach and family man who lost his battle with cancer on October 19, 2010.
The kickoff event is the Craig Charron Memorial Celebrity Bartending Fundraiser at Murphy's Law (370 East Ave.) on Monday, July 25th. The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. and will feature Ryan Callahan, Rory Fitzpatrick, Brian Gionta, Scott Metcalfe, Scott Nichol, Jason Cipolla and other past and present NHL stars. To purchase a $50 ticket, which includes food and drinks, stop by The Sports Centre at MCC, Murphy's Law or the Amerks office.
Two weeks later, the Alumni will hold a celebrity hockey game at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7th, with a golf event on Monday, August 8th. The location and player roster for the game will be announced in the coming weeks. Last year, the game featured National Hockey League stars, along with past and present Amerks and Buffalo Sabres. Craig and Wendy Charron's four children: Jackson, Nicholas, Hunter Anne and Emma will benefit from the events.
Craig Charron was born in North Easton, Mass., but called Rochester his home. He was an Amerk legend, scoring 122 goals and adding 190 assists in 335 games. He led Rochester to a Calder Cup championship in 1996 and was inducted into the Rochester Americans Hall of Fame in 2008. Charron was a two-time winner of the team's MVP award, scoring title, McCulloch Trophy for community service, Fairand O'Neill Award for sportsmanship and the Booster Club's Most Popular Player award. Charron was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1989 out of Division I UMass-Lowell. His career lasted 12 seasons from 1990 to 2002, as he played in 726 professional games.
