April 20, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club returns to GIANT Center this Wednesday night for Game 3 of the 2009 East Division Semi-Finals, leading the best-of-seven series two games to none. The BEARS defeated the Phantoms 4-2 in Game 1 this past Thursday night and 6-2 on Saturday evening in south Philadelphia. Both games were played at the Wachovia Spectrum. Ten different players scored goals for HERSHEY in the first two games of the series.
The BEARS stand two wins away from advancing to the 2009 East Division Finals against the winner of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton/Bridgeport series. Game 3 is Wednesday night at GIANT Center at 7:00 p.m., with Game 4 coming up on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Should Game 5 be necessary, it also would be played at GIANT Center this Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Some very special teams: Through the first two games of the East Division Semi-Finals, the BEARS have enjoyed a decided advantage on the power play and the penalty kill. HERSHEY is a perfect 12 for 12 in penalty killing entering Wednesday's Game 3 at GIANT Center, and the BEARS have also added four power play goals in that span.
Last trip down the Turnpike: HERSHEY'S playoff matchup with Philadelphia marks the fourth and final time the two teams will meet in the Calder Cup playoffs. The BEARS defeated the Phantoms four games to three in the 1997 Mid- Atlantic Division Finals before losing to Philly in the 1998 Western Conference Semi- Finals. HERSHEY also defeated Philadelphia in the 2000 Mid- Atlantic Division Semi-Finals. The Phantoms, who were sold at midseason, are playing its final season in Philadelphia.
Groovy Neuvy: Goaltender Michal Neuvirth has enjoyed a strong start in his Calder Cup playoff debut in 2009. The rookie backstop won his first two Calder Cup playoff starts in Philadelphia , with a goals against average of 2.00.
Elsewhere in the East Division: The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Bridgeport Sound Tigers are going head-to-head in the other East Division Semi- Final. Bridgeport posed a furious third period comeback Sunday night to defeat the Penguins in overtime 5-4 at Wachovia Arena. Wilkes- Barre/Scranton still leads the series two games to one, with Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Washington update: The Capitals travel to New York Monday to face the Rangers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, trailing the Blueshirts two games to none.
