Bears Best in the AHL at the Break

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club won three games out of four this past week to head into the all-star break with the American Hockey League's best record. Winning 14 of its final 15 games before the break, HERSHEY possesses a 32-9-0-2 record and a 14-point lead over the second place Albany River Rats in the East Division race. The Chocolate and White have 37 regular season games remaining.

The team has four days off this week, as the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic is played in Portland, Maine. Following the break, HERSHEY returns to action this weekend at home with two games against the Manitoba Moose. Face-off Friday and Saturday is set for 7:00 p.m. with the defending Western Conference champions. Tickets for both games are on sale now at the Giant Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.

Double digits in Albany: For the first time in nearly 18 years, the BEARS broke into double digits in goals in a single game Friday night. With five goals in the first, two in the second and three in the third, HERSHEY defeated the Albany River Rats 10-4 at Times Union Center. The Chocolate and White last scored 10 in a 10-4 win over the New Haven Nighthawks on October 17, 1992.

Another wins record: For the second time in less than a week, the BEARS set a franchise record for consecutive victories. After setting the new team record for consecutive victories last Saturday in Winnipeg against Manitoba, HERSHEY set a new mark for consecutive wins at home Sunday against Syracuse. The BEARS have won 12 straight home games, eclipsing the 11 straight won during the 1962-63 season. The Chocolate and White will look to make it 13 straight home wins Friday when Manitoba comes to town at 7:00 p.m.

Practice schedule: The BEARS will not practice this week, as the team is off for the AHL All-Star break. The team will reconvene on Friday for a morning skate prior to a home game with Manitoba.

Not since June...: The Manitoba Moose will visit Giant Center this weekend for the first time since Game 5 of the 2009 Calder Cup Finals. Although Manitoba won Game 5 to force the series back to Winnipeg, the BEARS ultimately won the series four games to two, claiming the team's 10th Calder Cup title.

Busy week for Washington: The Capitals are back in action Tuesday night at Verizon Center as the Detroit Red Wings invade D.C. at 7:00 p.m. Bruce Boudreau's team then heads to Pittsburgh to face the defending Stanley Cup champions Thursday night in western PA. Phoenix then visits the District Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
