
Bean's Two-Run Single Lifts Chiefs to 3-2 Win

PEORIA, IL- Steve Bean delivered a two-run go-ahead single and Joe Scanio and Kyle Barraclough combined for 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief as the Peoria Chiefs beat the Quad Cities River Bandits 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. The win is the Chiefs fifth in a row and gives them a 13-7 record.
Each team plated a run in their half of the first inning. Brett Phillips led off with a triple for Quad Cities and scored on Chan-Jong Moon's single, but Silfredo Garcia got the next three outs in order. The Chiefs countered with a walk to CJ McElroy Jr. to begin the bottom half. McElroy stole second and scored on Juan Herrera's single to center.
Quad Cities pushed ahead again in the second on a wild pitch for a 2-1 lead. Peoria took the lead in the third when Juan Herrera led off with a single and stole second. Ronald Castillo walked with one out and Steve Bean delivered a two-out, two-run single up the right field line for the 3-2 advantage and capped the scoring.
Joe Scanio kept it a 3-2 game by stranding an inherited runner at first base after replacing Garcia and working around a walk in the sixth and two baserunners in the seventh.
Garcia pitched the first 4 1/3 innings allowing two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out two. Scanio (2-1) went the next 2 2/3 scoreless innings on one hit with two walks and a strikeout to earn the win in relief. Kyle Barraclough threw two perfect innings with two strikeouts for his first save.
