Loveless walk-off caps Lugs rally in 9th

LANSING, Mich. - Derrick Loveless drilled a walk-off single to cap a four-run ninth inning and give the Lansing Lugnuts (9-12) a 5-4 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods (6-15) on Saturday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The come-from-behind win was the second walk-off victory of the home stand for the Lugnuts, who have won four of the last five games.
Lansing entered the last of the ninth trailing 4-1 with Aaron Griffin (BS, 1; Loss, 1-2) coming in to attempt the save for the Hot Rods. Ian Parmley and Dickie Joe Thon both reached to lead off the inning, and Jason Leblebijian followed with a two-run single to cut the deficit to one run.
After third baseman Matt Dean reached on a walk, Mitch Nay grounded out to first to move the two runners into scoring position. Shortstop Dawel Lugo singled into right field to plate the tying run, and Loveless followed with the game-winning single.
Bowling Green jumped ahead of the Lugnuts in the eighth inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Juniel Querecuto and Pat Blair off of Lansing reliever Alberto Tirado.
The Hot Rods added two runs in the top of the ninth with a two-run single by James Harris off of Scott Silverstein (Win, 2-1) pull ahead by three.
The Lugnuts held a 1-0 lead in the sixth after a Parmley sacrifice fly brought Santiago Nessy across the plate.
Nay's team-high 17-game on-base streak came to an end as he went 0-4 on the afternoon.
Bowling Green ran itself out of scoring opportunities throughout the game, finishing the game with 14 runners stranded on base.
Lugnuts starting pitcher Jairo Labourt pitched four scoreless innings, despite surrendering four hits, five walks, and hitting two Bowling Green batters.
The Lugnuts and Hot Rods will play the rubber match of the three-game set on Sunday afternoon, closing out the seven-game home stand at Cooley Law School Stadium on Kids Day, presented by Delta Dental. Jeremy Gabryszwski (1-2, 3.80) will start on the mound for Lansing, countered by Bowling Green's German Marquez (0-1, 1.88).
