Beach Bums Split Doubleheader with Slammers

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(42-49) dropped the completion of a June suspended game, 5-4, but took the nightcap of tonight's twin bill over the Joliet Slammers(51-40), 8-0.

Before the rains came down on June 3rd, Joliet took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Travis Bolin ground out. To start off the scoring in the resumption, Trenton Hill hit an RBI single in the fourth, followed by an RBI double by Bolin, for a 3-0 game. In the fourth, L.J. Kalawaia made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly. Will Kengor, Luke Lowery, and Orlando Rivera led off the sixth with singles. Kendall Patrick drove in Kengor with a sacrifice fly, pulling Traverse City within three.

Joliet added an important insurance run in the top of the ninth when Hill hits an RBI single, making it 5-1. Josh Hauser started off a rally in the bottom of the inning when he walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Alec Olund drove him in with an infield single then Isaac Benard walked for a third time in the game. Two batters later, Luke Lowery smacked a two-run single, pulling the Beach Bums within one, but the comeback stalled there.

Liam O'Sullivan started after the resumption of the suspended game and earned the win to improve to 11-4. He went five innings, giving up a run on five hits and two walks. Justin Finan, who started the game back in June, gets the complete game loss to fall to 0-5 on the season, He gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks.

Game two started with two scoreless innings then the Beach Bums broke the deadlock in the third. Josh Hauser led off with a double then moved to third on an Orlando Rivera single. Hauser then scored on a double play ball for a 1-0 lead. They then pulled away in the fourth and fifth innings.

The fourth started with singles by Luke Lowery and Alexis Rivera. Two batters later, Alec Olund hit an RBi single to double the lead. Ryan Kemp hit an RBI double, Josh Hauser hit an RBI single, and Orlando Rivera had an RBI infield hit, giving Traverse City a five run cushion. Lowery, Alexis Rivera, and Noah McGowan led off the fifth with consecutive walks, followed by a two-run double by Olund. Hauser, two batters later, drove in the game's last run on a single.

John Havird picked up his second complete game of the season, and his first shutout, improving his record to 4-9. In seven innings, he allowed four hits and a walk, whiles striking out five. He finished strong, retired 12 of the last 13 hitters he faced. Daren Osby is stuck with the loss as he went four innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and two walks. He falls to 7-3.
