Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.-- The Traverse City Beach Bums have signed their second former New York Yankees pitching prospect of the 2008-09 offseason, inking 6-5 right-hander Jason Kiley for the 2009 season.

"Kiley is a big right-handed starter with a hard sinker in the upper 80s to low 90s," said Beach Bums director of baseball operations Jason Wuerfel. "We have high expectations that he will step right into our rotation and be an impact guy for us."

Kiley pitched the 2007 and 2008 seasons with the Single-A Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League, where he appeared in 43 games over those two seasons, striking out 52, while walking just 21 in 63 2/3 innings of work. He totaled a 6-3 record and two saves and a 3.56 earned-run average with Staten Island.

As a college student-athlete, Kiley pitched for NCAA Division-II Florida Gulf Coast University where he appeared in 65 games from 2004-to-2007, striking out 242, while walking just 61 in 284 1/3 innings on the mound for the Eagles.

A product of Palm Harbor, Fla, Jason is the son of Kevin and Coleen Kiley. He attended Palm Harbor University High School where he was a first-team All-State pitcher.

Kiley will report to Beach Bums spring training on May 6 in Traverse City. The squad opens the season on May 22 at Kalamazoo and opens its home slate on May 26 against Southern Illinois at 7:05 p.m. at Wuerfel Park.

In February, the Beach Bums previously signed left-handed pitcher Shawn Joy, who pitched for the Gulf Coast Yankees last season after signing with the New York Yankees out of Southern Illinois University.
