Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Behind seven shutout innings from Michael Moore and a five-run seventh inning, the Traverse City Beach Bums defeated the Washington Wild Things 7-0 and qualified for their first ever Frontier League playoff appearance.

The playoffs will begin on September 9 and 10 at Windy City before shifting to Traverse City for games three and four on September 11 and 12. Playoff tickets will go on sale Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

A pitcher's duel was on tap right from the outset as both Moore and Matt Rossignol were sharp early on. Traverse City scored the first run of the game in the fourth when Chase Burch led off the inning with a triple. After the next two batters made outs, C. J. Ziegler hit a ringing double to left-center to score Burch for a 1-0 Beach Bums lead.

Traverse City would put the game away in the seventh. With a run already in on an error, Burch came up with the bases loaded and singled to right. The hit scored Jason Codiroli. The throw back to the infield short-hopped Michael Parker at second and the bobble was enough to allow Matt Brown to score to make it 4-0. After a groundout by J. T. Hall moved Michael Diaz to third and Burch to second, Brad Miller came up and singled to score both runners to make it 6-0. TC would tack on a run in the eighth to create the final margin.

Moore (9-6) picked up the win with his best outing of the season, going seven shutout innings allowing three hits and striking out a career-high nine batters. Scott Mueller shut down Washington over the final two innings of work, striking out four along the way.

Offensively, Burch and Ziegler had two hits each.

The final regular season game comes up on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. It is Fan Appreciation Day at Wuerfel Park where the Beach Bums and Traverse Bay Marine will team up to award the Sea-Doo personal watercraft as part of the Millionth Fan Challenge. The winning fan MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN. Kids will be able to run the bases after the game and fireworks will follow the contest.
