Washington Wild Things News Release
Traverse City, Mich. - Wild Things starter Matt Rossignol pitched his best outing of the season but the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, were unable to produce any offense in a 7-0 loss to the Traverse City Beach Bums Saturday night at Wuerfel Park.
Rossignol threw six innings and allowed one run on three hits with four walks in the loss. Traverse City's only run off the Washington starter came in the bottom of the fourth. Chase Burch led off with a triple and scored on a two-out double by CJ Ziegler.
That run turned out to be enough for the home team, though they added to their lead in the seventh inning with reliever Ben Rodewald on the mound. With the bases loaded and no outs, Michael Diaz hit a grounder to Rodewald, but Jonathan Alia scored on the play when Jared Dyer was unable to handle the throw home. Chase Burch then singled to bring in Jason Codiroli. Matt Brown also scored on the play after Luis Rivera bobbled the ball in right field. Brad Miller hit a two-RBI single to bring the Beach Bums' run total to five in the inning.
One more run in the eighth gave Beach Bums the 7-0 victory. Brown scored from second on a Diaz single thanks to an errant throw by first baseman Eric Stephens.
Traverse City starter Michael Moore pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out nine and giving up three hits and three walks in the victory. The win secured a playoff spot for the Beach Bums, their first appearance in Frontier League postseason play.
The Wild Things conclude the 2010 season tomorrow against Traverse City at 5:05 p.m. Pre-game coverage starts at 4:55 p.m. on WJPA 95.3 FM. Season tickets for 2011, the Wild Things' 10th season, are on sale now. Call the box office at 866-456-WILD for details.
