Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(32-41) came back from a heft deficit for a 7-6 win over game one, but couldn't do it twice, dropping game two against the Schaumburg Boomers(37-37), by a final score of 5-0.
In Game 1, Schaumburg scored in the top of the first inning on a Ty Moore grounder, but the Beach Bums' Orlando Rivera hit his first home run of the season and Isaac Benard followed with his seventh of the year, both solo shots, giving Traverse City a 2-1 lead after one. After a scoreless second, Moore drove in another run, this time on a single, tying the game after three. In the fourth, Michael Hartnagle hit an RBI double then Zach Weigel slammed a three-run homer, giving the Boomers a 6-2 lead.
Noah McGowan led off the fifth with his third triple of the season then scored on a Ryan Kemp RBI single, pulling the Beach Bums within three. With one out in the sixth, Steve Lohr cranked a solo homer, his seventh of the season, but the Bums weren't done there. Connor Oliver walked and Noah McGowan reached on an error. Two batters later, Orlando Rivera hit a fly to left but the fielder misjudged his dive and Rivera ended up with an inside-the-park home run, giving Traverse City a 7-6 lead.
Reinaldo Lopez earned the win, going six innings, allowing six runs, three earned, on 11 hits. He improved to 8-4. Mitch Schulewicz gets the loss in relief, dropping to 3-2. He gives up two unearned runs on one hit in 2/3 of an inning. Matt Williams picked up his seventh save, allowing a hit but inducing the game-ending double play.
In game two's second inning, Schaumburg hit back-to-back RBI doubles off the bats of Collin Ferguson and Clint Hardy. Hardy then scored on an error to make it 3-0. Sean Godfrey added a solo homer in the fifth, adding to the Traverse City deficit. The Boomers capped off the scoring in the seventh with an RBI single by Zack Weigel.
Quinn DiPasquale earned the win in a four inning effort, picking up a win in his first Frontier League game. He gave up two hits and walked two. John Havird suffers the loss to drop to 3-8 on the year. He went four and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs, three earned, and six hits and a walk.
