
Beach Bums Hit Three Homers in 10-2 Win Over Florence

FLORENCE, KY - The Traverse City Beach Bums hit pounded three homeruns, including two in an inning for the second straight night, scoring five times in the seventh inning on their way to a 10-2 rout of the Florence Freedom at Champion Window Field on Sunday afternoon.
Brad Roblin opened the scoring with a solo homer for the Beach Bums in the top of the third. Roblin drove the first pitch from Florence starter Mike Rocco off of the scoreboard in left field for his second homer of the season. Traverse City tacked on two more runs in the inning to extend the edge to 3-0. Jake Whitesides doubled home Steve Young with his second double of the game. Whitesides then stole third and scored on a wild pitch.
The Beach Bums added to the lead with a pair of runs in the sixth. Brad Miller singled with one away and scored from first on a double off the bat of Jeff Brown. Brown came in to make it a 5-0 lead when Brad Roblin singled. Florence scored in the bottom of the frame to pull within 5-1 when Garth McKinney singled home Jeff Landry.
Five runs crossed for the Beach Bums in the seventh to open a 10-1 lead. The inning began with Mike Goetz reaching on an infield single. With one out, Jake Whitesides walked. Kyle Maunus drove in the first run with a single to score Goetz. Mike Epping blew the game open with a three-run homer over the wall in right. It was the second homer in as many nights for Epping at Champion Window Field. Brad Miller connected on his second homer of the season with two outs to cap the scoring.
Kelly Hunt homered off of David Nathanson to account for the final margin. Nathanson worked seven innings in picking up his league leading seventh win in eight starts. He allowed two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out three. Pete McEneaney worked the final two innings.
Brad Miller led a 14-hit offensive attack. Miller was the Beach Bums Player of the Game, going 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Mike Epping also finished with three hits and drove in three runs. Jake Whitesides had two hits and two doubles while Jeff Brown and Brad Roblin also contributed multiple hits.
The Beach Bums (21-17) conclude the series with the Freedom on Monday night with a 7:05 pm contest. RHP J.T. King (2-5, 6.75) gets the ball for the Beach Bums while RHP Andy Clark (2-0, 2.70) starts for the Freedom.
