Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(9-9) left nine men on base in tonight's pitcher's duel, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Schaumburg Boomers(13-5).
In the rubber game of this week's three game series, the Beach Bums got on the board early in the game. Jeff DeBlieux led off the first with a single to center. Then, after Arby Fields bunted him over with a successful sacrifice, Steven Patterson hit a base hit to right. DeBlieux came in to score to give Traverse City a 1-0 lead.
Schaumburg didn't take long to respond as they scored in to top of the second when Cosimo Cannella grounded home Kenny Towns, who led off the inning with a single, to tie up the game. In the fourth, with two outs and runners on first and second, James Keller hit a ball right in front of plate The throw to first got away, allowing a run to score, giving Schaumburg the lead. They picked up an insurance run in the ninth on a Jack Parenty RBI single.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Bums put together a two out rally. Kendall Patrick hit a grounds-rule double, Giancarlo Brugnoni walked, and pinch-hitter Nick Murphy was hit by a pitch to load the bases but the Beach Bums couldn't complete the comeback.

He suffers the hard-luck loss to fall to 0-2. Aryton Costa matched Lopez pitch-for-pitch to pick up his second win of the season, improving to 2-0.
