Wild Things Avoid the Sweep
June 1, 2017 - Frontier League (FL)
Joliet Slammers News Release
Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical took the first two games from the Washington Wild Things and they looked to complete the sweep behind LHP Tyler House (0-2) on Thursday night. RHP Chase Cunningham (2-0) got the start for Washington as both starters were scoreless through 3 innings of play as it looked to be a pitcher's duel at Slammers Stadium.
Washington scored first after a single from right fielder Hector Roa to make it 1-0 Wild Things in the 4th. It was Rock night at the ballpark tonight and Slammers' first basemen Rock Shoulders stepped up after driving a home run through the wind and beyond the center field wall to tie the ballgame.
Both pitchers would exit with a no-decision as we entered the 9th inning still tied. Slammers' closer Confesor Lara came in to work the 9th and Kyle Pollock the DH for Washington greeted him with a double to left field. The next batter John Fidanza bunted, but hit it too hard to the charging Rock Shoulders at first who fired to third to nab Pollock to get the lead man. The momentum was then back in the Joliet dugout as the Slammers looked to capitalize.
With the Slammers one out away from keeping it tied lead-off man Rashad Brown doubled (5) over the left fielder CJ Needham to give the wild things the lead 2-1. The Slammers were unable to rally in the 9th inning and drop game 3 with a final score of 2-1. Zack Strecker gets the win for Washington and Confessor Lara got the loss for Joliet.
The Joliet Slammers continue their homestand with their series against the Lake Erie Crushers beginning Friday, June 2 at 7:05 pm. Friday is princess night with princesses at the park provided by Magic, Music and More. Princesses include Ana, Elsa, Moana, and Elana.
