Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce the addition of right-handed pitcher Michael Shreves. He joins the team via a trade with the American Association's Laredo (TX) Lemurs, in exchange for infielder Kevin Taylor.

Shreves enters his second season in professional baseball after spending 2014 with Laredo. He went 5-3 with a 5.60 ERA in 24 total appearances.

"He is a big strong kid with a 90-94 mph fastball and a good change" said Beach Bums' manager Dan Rohn. "He can be used as starter or out of the pen and we'll see how it goes when he gets here."

The 24 year old entered pro baseball following three seasons at the University of Montevallo (AL). As a senior in 2013 he started a team-high 14 games and won a team-best eight. He finished 8-4, 5.18 ERA over 90.1 innings pitched and was named to the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Gold Glove team. Overall, he made 45 appearances, including 32 starts on the mound, in his career.

He competed as a freshman at the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota and helped the team advance to the NJCAA World Series.

The Bradenton, FL native is the son of Paul and Cindy Shreves. He also has a brother, Michael. At Montevallo he was a kinesiology major.

In acquiring Shreves the Beach Bums send Taylor to Laredo. Taylor played his only season in Traverse City in 2014 hitting .271. He had previously spent time in the Los Angeles Dodgers' farm system.
