Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SAUGET, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies have signed rookie pitchers Joel DePorte and Alex Boshers for the 2015 season.
DePorte, 24, recently finished his college baseball career at McMurry University. The right-hander finished his time as a War Hawk by posting a 2.56 ERA in 105 innings of work during his senior season. "I'm really excited for the season," said DePorte, who grew up in Fremont, Calif. "I've really worked on attacking the zone and developing my changeup during this offseason," he said.
Boshers, a 23-year-old who played collegiately at the University of Tennessee-Martin, also joins the Grizzlies as a first year pro in 2015. The Nashville, Tenn. native appeared in 82 games and pitched in 247 innings during his five-year career at UT-Martin.
"It's been a grind for me and it's exciting to see all the hard work pay off," said Boshers, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013. "I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life and I'm hitting my spots a lot better," he said.
Grizzlies' ninth-year manager Phil Warren said that the pair of rookies came with good reccomendations from their former coaches.
"DePorte and Boshers both will have a chance to make this team out of spring training if they pitch well," Warren said.
Single-game, season, and group tickets for the 2015 season are on sale now. Call the Grizzlies' ticket office at (618) 337-3000 for more information.
