B.C. Lions News Release

(Kamloops) After a successful Fanfest celebration Saturday, a 19-17 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday and a light conditioning day on Monday, the Lions returned to the practice field in Kamloops for two practices on Tuesday.

Practice Notes: The Lions released seven players this morning including offensive linemen Daren Heerspink and Carlton Medder along with defensive lineman Stanley Wakwe, receivers Sean Walker and Kerry Reed, linebaker Dennis Haley and defensive back Dominique Williams.

The Leos added a new face in defensive lineman Victor DeGrate who started his morning by having breakfast with 80 strangers. Chilly temperatures and a stiff wind made for some tough going during the morning session, but with the majority of time dedicated to teaching sessions the conditions did not hamper the club's efforts.

When they did get into team situations, receiver Robert Jordan demonstrated why Roy Shivers showed a keen interest in bringing him to Vancouver. A finger-tip snag by the Oakland native was the highlight of the morning go-around. The defence was in high gear too, with interceptions off Casey Printers notched by halfback Darren Toney as well as lineman Alan Harper in back-to-back plays.

After noting the squad's ragged state following the first half of Sunday's game in Regina, Wally Buono introduced a conditioning period specifically targeting the defensive line among others.

In the afternoon, heavy rains subsided long enough for the Leos to get in an upbeat practice with superb performances turned in by Geroy Simon, Travis Lulay, Jamal Robertson and Tad Crawford.

Watching: Steve Williams (groin), Darius Passmore (hamstring)

Food Fare: Lunch at Thompson Rivers University consisted of a choice of beef or chicken burgers with a selection of salads, fruits and desserts. Dinner was a full pull of turkey, potatoes, stuffing etc.

Quotable: "You can tell there are some good athletes out here because no one is falling down" - Wally Buono to the entire team wrapping up the evening practice.
