BaySox sweep doubleheader, hold Phillies scoreless in both games

Bowie, MD- The Baysox swept a doubleheader from Reading in Eastern League play, shutting out the Phillies in both halves 2-0 and 1-0.

In game one the Baysox (51-45) rode a strong performance from Chris Piersoll (1-3), who pitched 5.1 shutout innings, scattering four hits, while striking out four. RHP Jacobo Sequea came on to pitch 1.1 inning of scoreless ball to earn his 18th save.

The Baysox got on the board early as David Segui, making a rehabilitation appearance, drove in Ed Rogers with a double in the first inning. Keith Reed added a solo home run, his eleventh, to conclude the Baysox scoring.

Gavin Floyd (4-6) took the loss allowing both Baysox runs over 5.1 innings. Floyd allowed five hits and struck out eight. Ryan Fleming and Carlos Ruiz combined for four of the Phillies six hits.

Lance Burkhart was the hero in game two, hitting his sixth home run of the season in the fifth inning, to lead the Baysox over Reading, 1-0.

Andy Mitchell (2-1) earned the win, pitching two innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits, while striking out four. Craig House earned his first save of the season, pitching two inning of shutout ball.

Eude Brito (4-2) took the tough luck loss, tossing 6.0 innings of two hit ball, although giving up the Burkhart home run.

The Baysox will play the third game of a five game series tomorrow at 7:05 pm. RHP Robert Averette takes the hill for the Baysox against RHP Elizardo Ramirez. Tuesday is Dollar Dayz sponsored by Pennysaver. Fans attending will be in for a bargain, paying just $1 for General Admission seats, small hot dogs and small soft drinks.
