Griffin's Three-Run Homer Helps Fisher Cats Cut Mets Lead To 2 Games

Binghamton, NY- John-Ford Griffin's three-run home run in the seventh inning propelled the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 6-4 triumph over the Binghamton Mets in the opening game of a four-game series between the Eastern League Northern Division's top two ballclubs. With the win, the Fisher Cats trim the Mets lead to two games.

Griffin hit his 17th homer of the season on an 0-1 pitch from Binghamton reliever Jason Scobie, sending it high over the rightfield wall at NYSEG Stadium to give the Fisher Cats a 6-1 lead.

New Hampshire (53-42) pitchers held the opponent to three hits for the second straight day. Starter Chris Baker (2-0) retired the first 12 batters he faced before yielding a solo home run to Justin Huber in the fifth that cut the Fisher Cat lead to 2-1.

Chase Lambin added a two-run double in the seventh inning that made the score 6-3. Another run would score on an Aaron Hill throwing error.

Baker went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs -three earned- on three hits. Dan Jackson, John Ogiltree and Jordan DeJong closed it out, with DeJong pitching a perfect ninth for his fifth save.

Binghamton (55-40) starter Jose Diaz took the loss, despite striking out nine in five innings. Diaz allowed Mike Snyder's two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning that gave the Fisher Cats a 2-0 lead.

New Hampshire sends left-hander Gustavo Chacin (9-2, 4.14) in search of an Eastern League-leading tenth win when he meets the top pitching prospect in the New York Mets organization, left-hander Scott Kazmir (1-0, 2.45). The game begins at 7pm, with live coverage starting at 6:30pm on the WKXL Fisher Cats Radio Network, available online at www.fishercatsradio.com and www.wkxlradio.com.
