Baysox strike early, beat Phillies 12-4

Reading, PA - The Baysox scored five runs in the first inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by Val Majewski and Walter Young as Bowie never looked back, defeating the Reading Phillies, 12-4.

The Baysox (27-20) offense was lead by Majewski went 3-for-5, finishing a home run short of the cycle, with four RBI and two runs. Ed Rogers went 3-for-4 and Eugene Kingsale, in his second start since with the team, went 2-for-3, scoring four runs. Jose Morban hit a solo home run, his sixth, to lead off the second inning for the Baysox.

Scott Rice (2-3) earned the win for the Baysox, going six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out three.

Eddie Candelario (0-3) took the loss in a tough outing, giving up nine runs on eight hits over three innings for Reading (19-27).

Jim Deschaine knocked in two runs and Scott Youngbauer scored a run and knocked in a run for the Phillies.

With the victory the Baysox move 1.5 behind Erie for first place in the Eastern League's Southern Division. The Baysox and Phillies will face off again tomorrow evening at 7:05 pm as RHP Joe Gannon will take the mound against RHP Franklin Perez.
