Baysox finalize community All-Star Team
July 12, 2004 - Eastern League (EL1)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Bowie, MD- The Bowie Baysox are proud to announce the full Community All-Star Team (CAST) roster. The CAST will be honored at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday July 14th in conjunction with the 3-A-Day of Dairy Eastern League All-Star Game, which will be held at Prince George's Stadium. Some tickets are still available at www.baysox.com or by calling 301-464-4865. Come out to see some of the best players in Double-A baseball and honor some of the people that act as All-Stars every day in this community.
Joining the original three CAST members of Art Eisenstein, Bill Seibert and Dale Lepore are six more outstanding members of this community. All nine will be honored as part of the pre-game ceremonies in front of friends and family and then by the Baysox guests to stay for what should be an exciting summer classic as the Baysox host an All-Star Game for the second time since 2000.
Two of the CAST members actually were in the same classroom this past year - one as the student and one as the teacher. 13-year-old Mackenzie Snyder was a student in Leon Anderson's social studies class this past school year. While both were nominated independently of one another, they are reconnected as members of the CAST. Snyder is honored due to her initiative in founding Children to Children a project that helps foster children by providing them with a duffel bag, a teddy bear and a hand-written note.
Anderson, now 75 years old, was named a CAST member as a result of his years of dedicated teaching. After the school year, the roles of teacher and pupil were reversed when Anderson was given a book as a gift from his student Mackenzie. The book was "Chicken Soup for the Pre-Teen Soul and Mackenzie had authored a story in it about her Children to Children project. To top it all off, Mackenzie signed a copy for Mr. Anderson as the student gave the teacher a bit of summer reading.
Also named to the CAST were Luther Holley, Russ Ideo, Terry Nurridin and Carole Pippert. Holley is very engaged in his church as an usher and as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Knight's of Columbus. Ideo is a leading member of the Citizens of Pointer Ridge Civic Association and has worked hard to get a library built in the South Bowie Community. Pippert has been a teacher for over 41 years, with a 30-year tenure at Rockledge Elementary. As with many of the Community All-Stars, she is recognized and embraced where ever she goes in the community by the many people whose lives she has touched.
To learn more about the CAST members and honor their contributions to our community, please join us for the Eastern League All-Star Game on July 14th at Prince George's Stadium. Tickets are still available by calling (301) 464-4865 or for information go to the Bowie Baysox website at www.baysox.com.
