PORTLAND, ME â Eastern League President Joseph McEacharn has announced his selections for the Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending July 11, 2004:
Trenton Thunder outfielder Mitch Jones has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending July 11th. Jones, a native of Orem, Utah, had an excellent week for the Thunder, hitting .419 (13-for-31) with two doubles, five home runs, nine RBI, 10 runs scored and a .968 slugging percentage in seven games. The 26-year old tied a Thunder franchise record by hitting a home run in five straight games last week from July 5th through July 9th. On the season the 6'2", 215 lb. slugger has blasted 24 home runs, which currently ranks second in the league and is one short of the Trenton franchise single-season record. Mitch, who is currently ranked among the league leaders in RBI (58), slugging percentage (.532) and extra-base hits (37), was selected by New York Yankees in the 7th round of the June 2000 draft.

Jason Stevenson, a left-handed pitcher for the Harrisburg Senators, is the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 11th. The 6'1", 175 lb. hurler was 2-0 with nine strikeouts and a 1.93 ERA in a pair of starts for the Senators last week. In his first appearance of the week Stevenson, a native of Redding, California, struck out four batters and walked three while giving up only four hits in seven shutout innings of work to pick up a win against the Bowie Baysox at Commerce Bank Park. In his second appearance of the week the 22-year old gave up three runs on six hits while striking out five batters and not allowing a walk, to earn a win against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Gill Stadium. Jason was selected by the Montreal Expos in the 12th round of the June 2000 draft.
