Baysox Declare Weekend of Independence

BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce today a three-day celebration of America's independence with All-American Weekend at Prince George's Stadium Friday, July 2, through Sunday, July 4, as the team takes on the Akron Aeros. The three-day celebration includes three nights of fireworks, animal conservation shows, a jersey auction to benefit AMVETS, a vacation giveaway courtesy of Busch Gardens Williamsburg on Stress Less Saturday and the Independence Day Picnic on Sunday.

Prior to the 7:05 p.m. game Friday, July 2, fans can see the animals of Busch Gardens and SeaWorld family of parks in a pregame animal conservation show inside the stadium, courtesy of Busch Gardens of Williamsburg. Past shows have featured hedgehogs, possums, sloths and echidnas. After the show, the Baysox take the field in special patriotic jerseys that the team will wear all weekend.

The bodies of the jerseys are red and white striped, with blue sleeves that feature white stars. The jersey has the Baysox script logo across the front and number on the back in blue, outlined in red and white. The team will wear the jerseys all weekend, and they will be auctioned on Sunday to benefit the AMVETS National Services Foundation. After the game the Baysox light up the skies around the stadium with a fireworks extravaganza.

The All-American weekend continues Saturday, July 3, with Stress Less Saturday, presented by Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Before the 6:35 p.m. game, fans can once again see the animals of Busch Gardens and SeaWorld family of parks in a pregame animal conservation show inside the stadium. During the game, one fan will win a vacation that includes four tickets for admission to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA in Williamsburg, Va., a two-night hotel stay in Williamsburg, and meal vouchers courtesy of Busch Gardens of Williamsburg. After the game, the Baysox once again light up the skies around the stadium with a fireworks extravaganza.

All-American weekend reaches a climax as the Baysox celebrate the Fourth of July with a jersey auction, Independence Day Picnic and extended fireworks display after the Baysox play at 6:05 p.m. During the game, the team will auction the jerseys that the players have been wearing all weekend with proceeds going to AMVETS National Services Foundation, a national nonprofit organization that serves American veterans.

Fans can enjoy the game along with a two-hour buffet at the annual Independence Day Picnic. The menu includes grilled all-beef hamburgers and hot dogs, corn on the cob, barbecue baked beans, crunchy chips, chilled watermelon and soft drinks. The buffet is served from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and tickets are $23 for adults, $19 for children ages six to 12, and $19 for season ticket holders. The picnic includes a general admission seat tickets for the games and fans can upgrade to lower reserved seat tickets for $4 each. After the game, the Baysox host one of the finest fireworks displays in the region, with an extended extravaganza that is nearly twice as long as the usual fireworks display.
