Erie, PA - The Erie BayHawks, NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club, (16-13), took down the red-hot Rio Grande Valley Vipers (22-11), 114-109, tonight inside Erie Insurance Arena. The Vipers won seven consecutive contests coming into tonight's match.
Terrence Jones finished with his second career triple-double, dishing out a career-high 14 assists, to go along with 20 points, a team-high 11 rebounds and one steal in 34.2 minutes. Jordan Sibert poured in a team-best 29 points on 10-16 (.625) shooting, including a 7-12 (.583) mark from three-point territory, two rebounds, two assists and one block in 45.1 minutes of action. Atlanta Hawks two-way forward Alex Poythress tallied 26 points on 12-24 (.500) shooting from the floor, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block in 39.3 minutes.
Erie dished out 32 assists in tonight's win, marking the 10th time this season the BayHawks have recorded 30-or-more assists in a single game.
Dakari Tucker led the Vipers with a game-high 34 points, to go along with four rebounds and two assists in 41.3 minutes. Houston Rockets assignee Isaiah Hartenstein recorded a double-double, registering 19 points, a game-high 18 rebounds, a team-high tying seven assists, one steal and a game-high six blocks in 36.2 minutes of play.
Rio Grande Valley jumped out to an early 13-point, 17-4, lead at the 8:04 mark of the opening quarter. The BayHawks finished the first frame on a 27-17 run, finding themselves in a 34-31 hole heading into the second period. The Vipers maintained pace throughout the second quarter, extending their lead heading into into halftime. At the intermission of tonight's tilt, Rio Grande Valley held a 64-58 advantage
Terrence Jones gave the BayHawks their first lead of the game with 5:34 left to play in the third quarter, 76-75. After 36 minutes of play, the Vipers notched a five-point, 87-82, lead. The BayHawks opened up the final quarter of action on a 7-0 run, taking a two-point, 89-87, lead off of a C.J. Anderson layup. Dakari Tucker would respond by burying a triple, regaining the lead for Rio Grande Valley. With 4:22 left to play in regulation, the BayHawks held a slim 104-103 advantage. Erie would eventually come away with a 114-109 victory, snapping the Viper's seven-game win streak.
