Erie, Pennsylvania, Monday, January 9, 2011 - The Erie BayHawks will be part of the first NBA Development League Showcase game ever to be shown to a national TV audience in prime time, as they face the defending league champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers Wednesday at 8:00 pm ET live on the VERSUS Network. The game takes place in South Padre Island, Texas, site of this year's Showcase event.

It's also believed to be the first time ever a professional Erie sports team will play live on national TV. To commemorate the event, the team is hosting a fan watch party at Calamari's Squid Row, 1317 State Street, where the game will be shown on numerous TVs.

"Playing live in primetime to a national audience is an exciting opportunity for both our players and fans," said BayHawks team president Matt Bresee. "The season-long VERSUS deal also provides great exposure for our league and corporate partners and we're thrilled we get a chance to be a part of it."

VERSUS, a network that reaches 75 million homes, is showing a total of 11 NBA Development League regular-season games as well as six playoff games, including Erie's final regular season home game on April 2. In addition, the network will also broadcast the new Showcase slam dunk and three-point contests on tape-delay January 15. The April 2 game will also be shown same-day delay.

The 2011 NBA D-League Showcase is the NBA's premier in-season basketball scouting event that runs Monday through Thursday, Jan. 10-13, and features all 16 NBA D-League teams playing two games each over a four-day schedule in front of professional scouts from all 30 NBA teams.

Four games will be played on each day of the Showcase, with the Slam Dunk and Three-Point Contests immediately following play on Wednesday, Jan. 12. The Showcase begins at 12:00 p.m. ET on Jan. 10. The BayHawks face the Idaho Stampede on Tuesday at 8:15 pm ET. Fans can watch Tuesday's game live online via NBA Futurecast at nba.com/dleague, or listen to BayHawks play-by-play man Chris "Red" Hughes make the call on AM 1330 The Fan on both Tuesday and Wednesday night.
