FORT WAYNE - The Erie BayHawks (26-23) mounted a furious second half comeback, down by as many as 24, to defeat the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 105 - 99. The victory sealed a post-season playoff birth for the expansion BayHawks.
Maureece Rice continued his red-hot play notching a game high 36 points in the win. Erik Daniels added 23 points, with Oliver Lafayette coming off the bench to contribute 18. Also providing strong play from the bench was Jarvis Gunter with 8 points and 7 rebounds including 4 critical offense boards.
Coleman Collins marked a career high with 31 points for the Mad Ants in the losing effort. Anthony Kent, filling in for an injured Chris Hunter, notched a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Ron Howard with 19 and Taj McCullough with 17 rounded out the Mad Ants in double figures.
The BayHawks wrap up the regular season, Saturday night at the Tullio Arena, with a rematch versus Fort Wayne, tipoff set for 7 PM. The game will mark Fan Appreciation Night with giveaways throughout the evening. Tickets for the game are selling quickly, with plenty of good seats available. The Tullio Arena box office will re-open Saturday at 10 AM or fans can charge tickets by phone at 452-4857.
