MOBILE, AL --The Mobile BayBears (24-16) extended their season best 5-game win streak with a 4-0 shutout over the Chattanooga Lookouts (16-24) Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. RHP Bradin Hagens pitched 6.2 scoreless innings and Jake Lamb tallied a season-high three hits en rout to Mobile's fifth shutout of the season.
The BayBears win over the Lookouts coupled with a loss by the Montgomery Biscuits results in Mobile having a three game lead over both Montgomery and the Mississippi Braves for first place in the Southern League South Division title.
Hagens iced the Lookouts' bats Thursday, allowing just seven hits. The righty did not walk a single batter and struck out a season-high six in his longest outing of the season. The dominate performance earned Hagens his first victory of the year. RHP R.J. Hively and LHP Patrick Schuster each recorded two of the final four outs to preserve the 4-0 win.
Lamb and Dustin Martin began the second inning with back-to-back doubles and Jon Griffin plated the first run of the game with an RBI single. Martin then scored on a sacrifice bunt from Steve Rodriguez. The successful squeeze play gave Mobile a 2-0 lead. The BayBears scored again in the fourth when Lamb doubled and later scored on Rodriguez second sacrifice of the game and then in the fifth inning the BayBears final run came off of Lamb's RBI double that drove in Gerson Montilla, putting Mobile up 4-0.
Mobile and Chattanooga continue their five game series with game two, Friday, May 16, 2014 at Hank Aaron Stadium with first pitch at 7:05 PM CT.
