Prince Homers Twice in Stars' Win

Huntsville, AL - Huntsville Stars 2B Josh Prince hit a pair of solo homeruns early and Drew Gagnon pitched a gem leading the Stars past the Birmingham Barons(16-25)4-2 Friday night at Joe Davis Stadium.

Prince led off the first inning with a solo homerun to left field against Birmingham starter Chris Beck(2-6). In Prince's second at bat of the night in the third inning, he led off with another homerun to left. Prince now has four homeruns on the year and all have come in the last six games.

The Stars increased their lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning. Jason Rogers drove home Nick Ramirez on an rbi single and Rogers scored on a stolen base by Mitch Haniger. While Haniger was stealing second, Birmingham second baseman Dan Wagner dropped the throw from catcher Kevan Smith enabling Rogers to score.

Gagnon who improved to 4-1 on the season did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. With one out, Christain Marrero broke up Gagnon's no-hit bid on a single into left field.

Gagnon pitched 7.2 shutout innings as he gave up just two hits. He struck out five before turning it over the Stars bullpen.

Arecenio Leon entered the game in the top of the eighth and recorded the final out. However in the top of the ninth after recording the first two outs, Leon walked the bases loaded.

Chris Curley hit a two-run single through the right side of the infield off Leon to make it 4-2.

David Goforth was summoned out of the Stars bullpen and he struck out Josh Richmond to end the game. It was Goforth's 10th save of the season.

The Stars improved to a Southern League best 28-14 with the win.

The Stars lead the Barons 2-0 in the series and can win the series Saturday night. The Stars will have RHP Taylor Jungmann(3-4, 3.20) on the mound. Birmingham will feature RHP Myles Jay(0-5, 5.49).
