Mobile BayBears News Release

JACKSON, TN - RHP Johnny Omahen took the mound for the Mobile BayBears Sunday afternoon in hopes of finding the same success he had wearing the BayBears blue in 2015 when he finished 7-2 with an ERA of just 2.78. Instead, the righty ran into early trouble again. Generals RF Tyler O'Neill smacked a three-run homerun in the first inning, giving the Jackson Generals an early lead en route to a 6-4 win over Mobile at The Ballpark at Jackson Sunday evening. The start of the game was delayed more than two hours due to rain, while the loss was the BayBears 12th defeat in the last 16 games played.

O'Neill's long-ball put Jackson (15-8) on the board early in the first inning after Ian Miller reached base with a walk and Guillermo Heredia reached safely with a base knock. O'Neill then took Omahen (0-4, 12.05) deep to center, giving the Generals a 3-0 lead. Jackson tacked on another in the second frame after catcher Steve Baron walked and SS Benji Gonzalez singled to start the inning. Third baseman Zach Shank drove in Baron with an RBI base hit and the Generals took a 4-0 advantage after just two innings.

Mobile (8-15) finally broke up a 13.2 scoreless innings streak when 1B Tom Belza singled to start the top of the third inning and scored three batters later when DH Mitch Haniger doubled to left to trim Jackson's lead to to 4-1. Second baseman Jamie Westbrook doubled in the fourth inning to drive home CF Todd Glaesmann, making it 4-2.

Generals RHP Sam Gaviglio limited Mobile to just two runs in four innings of work on Sunday before turning the ball over to the Jackson bullpen. RHP Forrest Snow allowed a pair of runs in the fifth inning on three hits to allow Mobile to tie the game at four. Both BayBears runs scored after Glaesmann drove in Haniger with a sacrifice fly and then catcher Michael Perez drilled a RBI base hit to right, scoring RF Gabriel Guerrero to knot the game up at 4-4.

Jackson struck back in the following half inning when RF Leon Landry pushed O'Neill across home with a one-out RBI triple and 1B D.J. Peterson plated Landry with a RBI base hit up the middle, giving the Generals a 6-4 lead and eventual win

RHP Emilio Pagan (3-0, 0.75) earned the win in relief. The righty entered the game in the sixth and threw 2.2 scoreless innings. RHP Kraig Sitton (S,4) recorded the final four outs of the game to earn his fourth save of the season.

Omahen was hooked for his fourth loss of the season after being charged with all six runs on eight hits, walking four batters in 4.1 innings on the mound.

The loss drops the BayBears to 8-15 on the season and 8-8 on the road. Mobile ended the month of April on Saturday with an 8-14 record which is the first time the team failed to reach double-digit wins in the opening month of the season since the 2010 season when Mobile finished the month of April 9-13.

The BayBears look to avoid their third, three-game losing streak of the season early on Monday morning. RHP Brett Ash (3-1, 3.48) gets the ball for Jackson against a starting pitcher to be announced for Mobile. First pitch from The Ballpark at Jackson is set for 11:05 am CT, and you can listen to all the action online via the TuneIn Radio App starting at 10:45 a.m. CT with the Longleaf Pines Pregame Show.

After an off-day on Tuesday, the BayBears look to return home to open up a five-game homestand against the Chattanooga Lookouts this week. The homestand runs from Wednesday, May 4 - Sunday, May 8.

Fans can purchase tickets to the games during the upcoming series against Chattanooga or any of the BayBears remaining 62 home games.
