MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announces its Pitcher and Player of the Week for April 25 through May 2. Righthander Tyler Danish of the Birmingham Barons was selected as Pitcher of the Week, while outfielder Phillip Ervin of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos earned Player of the Week honors.

It would be hard-pressed to write a better script than the one brought forth by Barons pitcher Tyler Danish in his start against Pensacola on April 28. On the birthday of his late father, Danish tossed the Southern League's first nine-inning, complete game shutout of the 2016 season. The Riverview, Florida resident used 105 pitches, 71 of which were strikes, to accomplish the feat. Allowing just five total baserunners on three hits and two walks, Danish punched out six Blue Wahoos batters in leading his Barons to a 4-0 victory.

Entering with a .179 batting average, Pensacola outfielder Phillip Ervin exploded last week with a .467 average, 10 runs, five extra-base hits, 18 total bases, three homeruns, four stolen bases, a .579 on-base percentage, a whopping 1.200 slugging percentage and OPS of 1.779, all top-five numbers in the circuit. His otherworldly slugging and OPS percentages led all of Minor League Baseball over the last seven days. The Mobile, Alabama native and resident stole a base in four consecutive games from April 25 to April 30. His biggest performance of the week came on April 25, when he went 2-for-3 from the plate with three runs, a walk, stolen base, double, homerun, and two RBI to lead his club over the visiting Jackson Generals.
