Mobile BayBears News Release
The Mobile BayBears dropped the first game of a four game set against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, falling 8-6 at Hank Aaron Stadium Thursday night. Mobile tied the game twice, but ultimately the Blue Wahoos prevailed, breaking a 6-6 tie in the top of seventh inning when Josh Fellhauer drove in Billy Hamilton with a RBI single. The Blue Wahoos added another run in the eighth inning, giving Justin Freeman a two run lead to work with in the ninth, as he held on for the save. The BayBears loss, coupled with a Montgomery Biscuits win, now means the Biscuits have a one game lead over the BayBears for first place in the Southern League overall standings.
Beau Mills gave the Blue Wahoos an early lead with a RBI single in the first inning that scored Ryan LaMarre. Trailing the BayBears 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning, Pensacola took a 5-2 lead after RHP Kyle Lotzkar scored Brodie Greene, and Fellhauer hit a three-run homer. Lotzkar did not factor in the decision, pitching 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on just two hits, but walking six batters.
With Mobile trailing after just one inning, Alfredo Marte (pictured above) tied the game at 1-1 with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. The BayBears took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Marte scored on a sacrifice fly from Rossmel Perez. With the BayBears down 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Marc Krauss evened the score for the second time of the night with a two-run homer, tying the game at 6-6. RHP Yonata Ortega suffered the loss, allowing Pensacola to take the lead in the seventh inning with two runs on two hits.
