Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Brett Baty was 4-4 with 6 RBI, including hitting the go-ahead two-run double as the Rumble Ponies held off the Erie Seawolves 14-13 in a wild contest on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium. The Rumble Ponies (27-41) overcame deficits of 7-2, 8-4, and 11-7 to pull out the win.
Baty also had a two-run homer in the third, two-run single in the fourth, a double in the first, a walk in the sixth, and scored three runs as he finished a triple shy of the cycle. It was in the bottom of the seventh though with the bases loaded and two out that Baty smacked a two-run double off the left-field wall that gave the Ponies a 12-11 lead as part of a six-run inning. The next batter Mark Vientos followed with a two-run single that scored Carlos Cortes and Baty to give the Ponies a 14-11 lead.
After the Seawolves (39-32) scored two in the eighth, Tommy Wilson came in to close out the game in the ninth. He was able to work out of a bases loaded one out jam striking out Ryan Kriedler and Spencer Torkelson to end the game.
The two teams combined for seven home runs, highlighted by a grand slam from Dillon Dingler as part of a five-run third that gave Erie a 7-2 lead. Wagner Lagrange also went deep for the Ponies in the first inning, his seventh of the year, as he has now hit safely in nine consecutive starts.
The two teams combined for 27 runs and 28 hits with every member of the Binghamton starting lineup reaching base at least once.
Eric Orze (2-0) gets the win in relief while Wilson gets his first save of the season. Ruben Garcia (2-2) takes the loss for Erie.
The Ponies go for the series win on Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 1:05 PM.
