Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush completed a weekend sweep of the Arizona Sundogs at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Saturday night. The game was controlled by the Rush from start to finish as the team rolled to a 7-0 drubbing of the Sundogs, tying a record for the largest margin of victory in franchise history. Jesse Schultz became the first Rush player to reach double-digit goals, potting two and adding a pair of assists in the win. Goaltender Danny Battochio was the game's #1 star, turning aside 33 shots for his second shutout of the season and seventh of his career.

The game began with a pair of Rush powerplay goals, from both a veteran and rookie. Strong passing between Jesse Schultz and Konrad Reeder set up rookie Levi Lind for a wrist shot from the slot that rang off the crossbar and in for the youngster's first CHL tally. A little more than two minutes later, veteran Shawn Limpright tee'd up a slapshot from the top of the slot, clanging it off the post and home for a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Rush then exploded with four goals in the second period, two on special teams. Konrad Reeder added to his point total with a redirection of a Blake Forsyth shot from the left side of the net just 1:27 into the frame. Less than two minutes later, Les Reaney flipped home a rebound from the bottom of the left circle for his third powerplay goal of the season. With seven minutes left, Jeff Kyrzakos set up Limpright on a shorthanded breakaway, and the St. Adolphe, Manitoba buried a wrist shot inside the left post. Finally, a 2-on-1 led by Mike Vaskivuo set up Jesse Schultz with a point-blank chance that the veteran made no doubt about it, giving the Rush a 6-0 lead.

Schultz added one more in the third period, capitalizing on a takeaway in the Sundog zone by rifling a shot over the glove hand of Scott Reid for the 7-0 win.
