Allen Americans News Release
Kansas City, MISSOURI - Former teammates battled one another playing pivotal roles for their new clubs Saturday night when the Allen Americans wrapped up their four games in five night's stint facing the Missouri Mavericks at the Independence Event Center. Recently traded from the Allen Americans to Missouri, goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson started in net for the Mavericks up against Marco Cousineau for Allen. Both goaltenders turned in stellar performances in the intense game that was tight until the dramatic final minutes of play.
Missouri jumped on the scoreboard early when Ed McGrane found the back of the net just 41 seconds into the contest off passes by Sebastian Thinel and Andrew Courtney to give the Mavericks the 1-0 lead. Allen got on the board late in the period to even the score 1-1 on Colton Yellow Horn's first goal of night, assisted by Jarret Lukin at 16:48. The period ended with the score unchanged and the Missouri Mavericks leading in shots 12-7.
Just past the midway point of the second period, the Mavericks took back the lead on a goal by Ryan Jardine at 11:34, assisted by Andrew Courtney for his second point of the night for Missouri and Steve Kaunisto (recently traded to Missouri from Allen along with goaltender Mahoney-Wilson). Allen led the period in shots on goal, 17-15 but Missouri maintained the slight edge overall, 27-24 and on the scoreboard 2-1.
Colton Yellow Horn tied the game for the Americans early on in the third period with his second goal of the night, assisted by Jim McKenzie and Bruce Graham at 2:10 to even things up at 2-2. John-Scott Dickson then gave the Mavericks back the lead at 12:19 of the third period, assists credited to Steve Kaunisto for his second of the night and Dale Mahovsky.
Lachlan MacIntosh, acquired by Allen in the Mahoney-Wilson, Kaunisto trade, netted the tying goal unassisted for the Americans with 2:34 remaining in regulation. MacIntosh's goal sparked a huge momentum shift in the Americans favor and with 1:13 remaining in regulation, Mike Berube scored for Allen to put them on top 4-3, assisted by Jason Deitsch and Bruce Graham. Colton Yellow Horn then cemented the victory for the Americans with his third goal of the night to earn the hat trick, with just three ticks left on the game clock. The hat trick marks Yellow Horn's 9th, 10th and 11th goals of the season. Allen outshot Missouri 12-7 in the period for a game total of 36-34 in favor of the Americans.
Allen improves to 13-4-4 for 30 points, remaining in first place in the Berry Conference and league standings. The Americans now head back home to prepare for a long three game home stand at the Allen Event Center, beginning with cross-town rival the Texas Brahma's Friday evening at 7:05PM.
