Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Battle Creek Bombers fell to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, 4-3 Friday night at Witter Field, getting swept by the Rafters. With the loss, the Bombers now have their longest losing streak of the season at four games. The Bombers fall to 4-6 in the second half and 22-24 overall.

The Bombers got on the scoreboard first. With one out in the second inning, third baseman Ryan Dorow and centerfielder Dean Miller each hit singles. After first baseman Nick Podkul laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, catcher Jacob Blunt hit a single to right field to score Dorow and Miller, giving the Bombers the 2-0 lead.

The Rafters were able to score one run in both the fourth inning and the fifth inning though to tie the game at two.

With the game still tied in the seventh, Dean Miller led off the inning by hitting a home run over the left field wall to give the Bombers the 3-2 lead.

Bombers starting pitcher Scott Sency went five innings as he took the no decision. He allowed two runs on seven hit, striking out two batters and walking six.

Max Ritchie relieved Sency in the sixth, but after a 1-2-3 sixth, he struggled in the seventh inning. Ritchie walked three batters in the frame, including an intentional walk. With the bases loaded Brandon Guske relived Ritchie, but Guske allowed a single to Dustin Woodcock to give the Rafters a 4-3 lead, which would be the final score.

Ritchie took the loss for Battle Creek, as the Bombers fell to 3-12 in one-run games this season.

The Bombers now head to Green Bay for a two-game stint with the Bullfrogs starting Saturday night at 7:35/6:35 Central.
