The Bombers (6-3, 22-22) win their second straight game to reach the .500 mark for the fourth time this season with a 7-2 victory over the Kenosha Kingfish (7-2, 20-23) Thursday at C.O. Brown.
Battle Creek got on the scoreboard first with two runs on two hits in the second inning off Kenosha starting pitcher, Nick Long (0-1). In his first start of the season for Kenosha, Long pitched five innings and gave up four runs with one walk and three strikeouts.
Mike Brown and Jalen Thomas both singled to lead off the inning. Brown scored on a wild pitch and Thomas was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Drake Osborn.
Brown went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored three times for Battle Creek, earning player of the game.
Battle Creek built a 4-0 lead through five innings for starting pitcher Michael McCraith (3-2), who pitched a gem for the Bombers.
McCraith went seven innings and allowed just two runs on seven hits while walking just one and striking out two Kingfish hitters to earn his third victory of the season.
The two runs came in the sixth inning for Kenosha on two singles to lead off the inning and a two-RBI double by Will Wagner to cut the Battle Creek lead to 4-2.
The Bombers then extended the lead back to four runs on a two-RBI single by Roman Trujillo with two outs in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Trujillo was the only Bomber with multiple RBIs Thursday night.
Battle Creek added one more run on a sacrifice fly by Zach Gartner to score Jordan Swiss after Swiss walked, stole second and advanced to third on an error. The RBI for Gartner was his team leading 25th RBI on the season.
Dillon Sievert pitched a perfect inning for Battle Creek in the eighth, striking out one. Then, Kenuel Dominguez closed the door on the Kingfish, allowing just one hit in the ninth.
Battle Creek will try to get over .500 for the first time all season Friday night against Kenosha. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
