Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston, SC - The Charleston Battery heads North Thursday for a three match road-swing. The Battery plays the Toronto Lynx Thursday night (7:30 PM Newsradio WSC 730), the Rochester Raging Rhinos Sunday afternoon (6:05 PM Newsradio WSC 730) and the Syracuse Salty Dogs on Monday night (7:30 PM Newsradio WSC 730).
The Battery enters the road-trip looking to halt an A-League winless streak that extends back to May 11. Charleston lost its last A-League game 2-0 to the expansion Puerto Rico Islanders in game played last Saturday night at Blackbaud.
The game against Toronto is the first of two in the 2004 season. Charleston's regular season campaign concludes on August 29 with a home match versus the Lynx.
Sundays' encounter with the Rhinos is the first since Charleston defeated Rochester 1-0 in a two-match Eastern Conference playoff series last September. The first game, played at Frontier Field, Rochester ended in a 0-0 tie then Charleston won the deciding match 1-0 at Blackbaud.
The Rochester roster includes several familiar faces. The Rhinos acquired John Wilson and Ryan Trout during the off-season; both players were members of the Battery's 2003 A-League Championship winning team.
Rochester is one of the powerhouse teams of the A-League. In their eight years of existence the Rhinos have played in the Championship game five times winning on three occasions. In 1999 Rochester defeated Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids to lift the US Open Cup.
The road-trip finishes Monday with a 7:30 PM match versus the Syracuse Salty Dogs. Syracuse is in its second year in the league and just missed the playoffs in 2003. The Salty Dogs visit Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday, July 24.
