BRANAN AND MATTEO NAMED TO A-LEAGUE TEAM OF THE WEEK
Defender Dustin Branan and midfielder Jeff Matteo were named to the A-League Team of the Week for their efforts in the 3-0 win over Seattle on Sunday, July 4. Branan scored the first goal of the game on a header from a Marco Ferruzzi corner kick and Matteo added the second goal of the game when he beat two Seattle defenders inside the goal box and slid the ball past the Seattle goalkeeper.
These are the second team of the week honors this year for both Branan and Matteo. Matteo was named Player of the Week the first week of the season and Branan was named to the week six Team of the Week.
WARREN TOPS IN GOALS AGAINST AVERAGE
After a 3-0 shutout victory over the Seattle Sounders, Thunder goalkeeper Joe Warren has propelled himself in to the league lead with the lowest goals against average (GAA). Warren has completed nine shutouts this season for a GAA of .451. His nine shutouts on the season also put him in a tie for first place with Montreal Impact goalkeeper Gregory Sutton.
MENYONGAR, DOE PARTICIPATE IN LIBERIAN WORLD CUP QUALIFIER
Thunder forwards Johnny Menyongar and Francis Doe each saw time in Liberia's most recent World Cup qualifier versus Togo. Meonyongar played the full 90 minutes of the 0-0 draw, while Doe also saw time in the match. Both Doe and Menyongar have returned to Minnesota and it is expected that Menyongar will be in uniform for Saturday's game versus Virginia Beach.
