Toronto Lynx News Release
(TORONTO, ON) - Toronto Lynx fans will finally get another chance to see their team in action as the Lynx return from a long road stretch since June 20th to the friendly confines of Centennial Park Stadium to face the defending A-League Champion Charleston Battery this Thursday, July 8th @ 7:30. In celebration of this Olympic year and the unique talents of the Ontario Special Olympics, the Lynx will host Tim Hortons Taste of Athens Night. Lynx fans will be happy to be able to catch captain, Shawn Faria back in action at home for the first time this season. Faria was the "Man of the Match" on Friday in providing much needed leadership and strong defensive midfield play.
Last Friday in Syracuse, the Lynx completed a 3-game road trip with a 1-0 victory pushing their record to 5-8-1 with 16 points and leapfrogged the Salty Dogs into 6th place in the Eastern Conference. Striker, Ali Gerba came through once again by scoring the second half game winner, his eighth of the season, placing him third in the A-League.
The Battery has struggled to find their championship form this season and sit at 2-9-4 with 10 points. Although they are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in their eight-year history, Charleston has no shortage of talent on their roster. Veteran Canadian defender, Mark Watson, is a standout at the back. The 2002 A-League Defender of the Year is a regular in the Canadian National Team. Dusty Hudock is a 2-time A-League Goalkeeper of the Year and has played every minute for the Battery this season, ranking second among A-League Goalkeepers in games, minutes and saves. The Battery also has plenty of offensive firepower. Former Richmond Kickers and Rochester Raging Rhinos star, Greg Simmonds leads the way and ranks in the A-League's top 20 with 4 goals and 10 points. He is supported by former A-League scoring champion, Paul Conway and creative midfielder, Teddy Chronopoulos.
