Battalion's Sanguinetti captures OHL Player of the Week Honours

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Defenceman Bobby Sanguinetti of the Brampton Battalion is the Ontario Hockey League's Player of the Week for the period ended Sunday, it was announced Monday.

Sanguinetti, 19, scored six goals and earned four assists for 10 points in three games. He had one goal and one assist in a 7-2 home-ice victory Thursday night over the Owen Sound Attack and one goal and two assists in a 4-3 overtime loss to the host Sudbury Wolves on Friday night.

Sanguinetti scored four goals, tying a club single-game record, and added one assist Sunday in a 7-1 conquest of the visiting Mississauga St. Michael's Majors that vaulted the Troops into first place in the Central Division. It was the second five-point game of the season for Sanguinetti, the first Battalion defenceman to score four goals in a game.

With 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 20 games, Sanguinetti leads the Troops and OHL defencemen in scoring.

He is the first member of the Battalion to be named Player of the Week since centre Wojtek Wolski earned the honour for the period ended March 19, 2006.

Sanguinetti, a native of Trenton, N.J., was acquired in a trade with Owen Sound last June. He was a fourth-round pick of the Attack in the 2004 OHL Priority Selection.

He scored four goals and added 20 assists for 24 points in 67 games in 2004-05 and recorded 65 points, including 14 goals, in 68 games the following season. Sanguinetti had 23 goals and 30 assists for 53 points in 67 games in 2006-07.

The New York Rangers selected Sanguinetti in the first round, 21st overall, of the National Hockey League's 2006 Entry Draft. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Rangers on April 20.
