Tampa, FL - The Bradenton Marauders (2-4) were held hitless after the fourth inning and fell 9-4 to the Tampa Yankees (5- 1) on Tuesday night at Steinbrenner Field. The Yankees exploded for five runs in the seventh off RHP Junior Lopez (L, 0-1) to break a 4-4 tie.
Bradenton erased a 3-0 deficit in the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead into the middle frames. Vicente Campos issued consecu- tive walks to start the inning to 1B Jerrick Suiter and LF Jordan Luplow. After RF Michael Suchy's sacrifice bunt, C Taylor Gushue doubled both runners home. Gushue scored on a single by CF Elvis Escobar, who then stole second and scored the go-ahead run on a hit from SS Kevin Newman.
Eric Ruth (W, 1-0) took over in the fifth inning for Tampa. Ruth tossed three innings without allowing a hit or walk to earn the win as Tampa held the Marauders hitless over the game's final five innings.
Mark Payton led off the seventh for Tampa with a double. He scored the go-ahead run on a double by Jorge Mateo. Mateo, the top-ranked prospect in the New York farm system, scored two batters later on Miguel Andujar's base hit. Mike Ford capped the scoring with a three-run home run.
2B Pablo Reyes went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his second game of the season.
