Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Miracle starter Randy Rosario carried a perfect game into the sixth inning to lead Fort Myers to a 2-1 win over the Brevard County Manatees at Hammond Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Chad Christensen supplied an early advantage in the first inning with a towering two-run homer off Brevard County starter Brandon Woodruff. Tanner English led off the bottom of the first with a single into left and then stole second base. Christensen worked a 1-1 count before unloading on a hanging slider for his first home run of the season to stake the Miracle to a 2-0 lead.

After striking out two in the first innings, Rosario (1-0) fanned two more in the second and set down the first 16 batters consecutively before surrendering an opposite field single to Angel Ortega. Rosario finished the evening with eight strikeouts, two hits allowed and no walks on 65 pitches.

The Miracle turned to the bullpen in the seventh. Luke Bard gave up a single and a walk, but induced a pair of ground balls to register a 4-6-3 double play and a roller to the shortstop for an out.

In the eighth, Yorman Landa entered and started his night by walking Jose Cuas. Ortega then lofted a single into right field and Cuas advanced to third. After Brandon Diaz sacrificed Ortega to second on a bunt, Omar Garcia grounded out to short to score Cuas and get the Manatees on the board, 2-1.

Todd Van Steensel was called in for the save opportunity in the ninth. In his second appearance of the season, Van Steensel navigated around a two-out walk and picked up a strikeout to post a scoreless ninth and earn his first save.

The Miracle totaled nine hits from eight separate batters and T.J. White collected his third multi-hit game going 2-for-4. Trey Vavra extended his hitting streak to five games with a seventh inning single.

Fort Myers (3-3) hosts Brevard County (2-4) for the third game of the series at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Stephen Gonsalves (0-1) makes his second start of the season against Manatees RHP Angel Ventura (0-0).
