Bats Resurface in Barnstormers Win
July 7, 2018 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers bats returned to their early season form on Saturday evening, producing nine hits and six runs off the New Britain Bees in a 6-2 win at Clipper Magazine Stadium to even the weekend series at one apiece.
Lancaster took advantage of some defensive misplay to strike for three runs in the bottom of the third. Tyler Bortnick led off with a single and and advanced on a passed ball charged to Bees' catcher Keith Ezersky. Darian Sandford walked after Bortnick stole third, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Rico Noel bunted for a base hit to load the bases for Blake Gailen with nobody out. Gailen rapped a one-hopper back to Josh Outman (2-2). The lefty, trying to rush a possible double play, bounced the throw home past Ezersky. Both Bortnick and Sandford scored, giving the Stormers a 2-0 lead. Trayvon Robinson singled to left center, plating Noel with the third run before Outman recovered and recorded the three outs.
It was enough for Brooks Hall (6-2). The right-hander only found trouble in the fifth after the first two batters reached base, Jonathan Galvez on a bobble in the shortstop hole and Vince Conde on a single to left. Galvez was forced at third on a bunt by Ezersky, but Conde scored the first New Britain run on a Darren Ford double into the right field corner. Ezersky crossed home on a Brock Stassi sacrifice fly.
Overall, Hall went six innings, allowing four hits and no walks. The right-hander fanned five.
Lancaster struck back in the bottom of the fifth to regain the three-run lead. Noel walked and stole second and third. Robinson singled off Galvez' glove up the middle to earn his second RBI of the night as Noel sprinted home. Robinson stole second and was brought home when Grant Desme blasted a double off the signs in deep left center.
The Barnstormers' final run of the night came in the eighth when K.C. Hobson crushed a ball off Bees' lefty Adam Loewen into the Haller Pavilion. The homerun is Hobson's second on the season and marked the first earned run off the arm of Loewen this season.
With the win, Lancaster evens its second half record at 1-1. The rubber match with New Britain comes Sunday afternoon when right hander Joe Gardner (3-5, 4.67 ERA) opposes Bees' starter Rainy Lara (4-3, 3.43 ERA). Tickets can be purchased at the Two Dudes Box Office or by ordering online at www.lancasterbarnstormers.com.
