Norfolk Tides News Release
June 18, 2006 - The Louisville Bats plated three early runs, holding off the Norfolk Tides 3-2 Sunday afternoon from Harbor Park.
The Bats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, as starting pitcher Justin Germano helped his own cause with a two-out RBI single that plated Matt Kata.
The Tides have now been outscored 14-0 in the second inning over their past 12 games, and 61-22 in the second inning this season.
Louisville added to their lead in the fifth inning, as former Tide Earl Snyder drove home Norris Hopper and Chris Denorfia with a two-run double, putting the Bats up 3-0.
Norfolk plated a run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Victor Diaz, then made the score 3-2 in the seventh frame on an RBI single by Anderson Hernandez. Both Diaz and Hernandez finished with two base hits on the afternoon.
Germano (4-6) picked up the win for Louisville, allowing five hits and two runs in 6.1 innings of work. Scott Chiasson recorded the final four outs to record the save for the Bats, which have now won eight straight games and a franchise-record 11 straight on the road.
Jeriome Robertson (1-5) took the loss for Norfolk, yielding three runs on six hits in 6.0 innings.
The Tides and Bats will resume their four-game set with a 7:15 contest Monday night from Harbor Park. Jose Lima (5-4, 4.02) looks to win his fourth game in his last five outings, and will oppose Louisville right-hander Tom Shearn (3-1, 2.44).
