Stockton Ports News Release
MODESTO, Ca. - The Ports managed just three hits against three pitchers while being shut out for the fourth time in 2022 in a 6-0 loss to the Nuts on Friday night at John Thurman Field in Modesto.
The Nuts (39-40) took advantage of a sun double to take the lead in the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Modesto right fielder Walking Cabrera lifted a high fly ball to left field that Danny Bautista lost in the high sky, allowing the ball to fall in medium deep left field. With all three runners off on contact, Cabrera's two-bagger cleared the bases to give Modesto a 3-0 lead.
After a Colin Davis solo homer leading off the fifth made it 4-0, the Nuts added on with two unearned runs in the sixth. Ports' starter Mitch Myers walked Robert Perez, Jr. on four pitches to start the frame and Ben Ramirez reached on a two-base fielding error by Stockton shortstop Max Muncy to put runners on second and third with nobody out. After Myers struck out Cabrera, David Shaeffer followed with an RBI groundout to score Perez, Jr. from third and Davis followed with a single to center to drive home Ramirez to give Modesto a 6-0 advantage.
Meanwhile, Nuts' starter Jordan Jackson held the Ports' (28-51) bats at bay. The right-hander allowed just two hits over six shutout innings while striking out seven.
The Ports' biggest threat came in the top of the eighth when they loaded the bases with two outs against Modesto reliever Tyler Driver, but Ramon Martinez struck out swinging to end the threat.
Raul Alcantara then retired the Ports 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth to end the game.
Jackson (5-7) got the win for the Nuts, while Myers (3-6) took the loss for Stockton surrendering six runs (four earned) on five hits in seven innings while tying a season high with seven strikeouts.
With the series square at two games apiece, the Ports and Nuts continue their six-game set with game five on Saturday evening at 6:05 pm at John Thurman Field in Modesto.
