Bats Come Alive as Tornadoes Blow Away Boulders
May 27, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Dan Sausville took the mound today in a similar circumstance that he did the last time he started. The Tornadoes had lost two of the previous games and Sausville had to try to steal one on the road.
And once again, he comes through for the Tornadoes.
The righty Sausville led the Worcester team to end the Tornadoes two-game losing streak. The offense backed him up big time again as well, as the Tornadoes (3-5) avoid the sweep against the Rockland Boulders (4-7) to win 9-3.
Sausville won his second straight by going seven innings and striking out three on 104 pitches, which means he now possesses the only two road victories for the Tornadoes in 2012.
Boulders starter Bobby Blevins gets tagged with the loss, as errors behind him in the second inning led to three of his four runs allowed to be unearned. The Tornadoes were able to bat around in that inning, the first time they have done so in 2012.
The Boulders almost rallied back again, cutting the score to 4-3 by the seventh inning. However, Tornadoes proved that not all things come in threes, scoring five runs combined in the eighth and ninth innings, squashing the Rockland comeback.
Tornadoes first baseman Nick Salotti provided the bulk of the Tornadoes offensive output. He stuffed the stat sheet with four hits, two of them doubles, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Brandon Pinckney continues to stay hot, adding two more hits of his own and collecting his league-leading tenth RBI of the season.
The Tornadoes increase their record to 3-5, and will come home for a six game homestand on Tuesday.
Kevin Cooper (0-1, 5.40 ERA), who actually pinch ran and scored for bopper Jose Canseco in the eighth inning, is in line to run to the mound as the Tornadoes kick off a six-game home stand.
The Tornadoes will start their home stand on Tuesday at the scheduled start time of 7:05. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Select tickets are still available at the 303 Main Street office from 9am until 3pm Tuesday, over the phone at (508) 792-2288 (same hours), at the ballpark starting at 3pm Monday, or online anytime right here.
Seth Orensky will join Nick Gagalis on the call tomorrow at 7:05. Coverage will start with Tornadoes Pre-Game Live with Davis VanOpdorp 6:50 on USTREAM.tv.
